The Struggle to Be More

I have been close yet distant, and vague yet detailed about my life. It’s so easy to show the best sides of one’s life, but not quite as easy to show the other sides. I think that I always feel that “everyone else is struggling, why would anyone want to listen to my struggle or hear me complain?” But I find myself in a more problematic predicament, that there is no way around. There is no way to change it, or sit around and hope that one day my schedule clears up so I can have my workout or blog time back.

Have you heard of the Facebook Depression? I was reading that its basically when you get depressed because you see all of the highlights of someone else’s life on their Facebook. Ha! Its true. I can’t tell you how many Stay at Home Mom’s Facebooks I stalk and Sigh at. Or see cute pictures of friends having a wonderful time with their cute kids, on the daily.

So, I’m just here to reiterate that my life isn’t always swell, and in fact, I struggle, I work and I know that most of you know where I’m at: Overstressed and injured with no time. And thus comes the struggle to be more.

We Support Each Other’s Dreams
There was a period of time where I could focus on my dreams completely, and then there was a period of time where I even had help achieving my dream. But right now, I’m in a period in life, where my husband needs my talents in order to achieve his dreams which is provide for our family and make us to be more than we currently are… but the journey is a lot longer than contest prep. It cannot be condensed into 12, 16 or even 20 weeks. In fact, this is now my life indefinitely.

When last year I anticipated that I would be busy, I did not stop to even consider the long term. I now work a 50 hour work week at my hospital job, and if I’m lucky, I only spend an extra 20 hours doing Administrative support for Bang’s Lawn Care. And I don’t earn a dime for this. And sometimes he needs help with jobs, which I also don’t get a cent for.

What I’m earning is a new life, a better life than what we have now. Supporting my husband’s dream has been even more challenging than trying for my own. This has meant endless meetings in order to learn accounting, learning all about owning a business, having employees and getting into radio advertising. I have become increasingly interested in Branding and Marketing, all to make this dream come true. Not to mention, just being a normal person and making time for anyone in my life is a huge struggle. One in which almost no one understands, and I get flack about it almost weekly – And I respond kindly, without excuses, even though that is not my first reaction.

But I’m Not Done!
And yet, when you spend all your time simply trying to make a living and support someone else’s dream… It’s not like yours goes anywhere. It’s still there. Inside my heart.Waiting for the time.

So this is the struggle. My heart feels the need to work toward my goals, even though I have almost no time to do so and have body limitations that are beyond my training knowledge. It’s depressing to look at workout plans and practically dissect them to weed out all of the exercises that are contraindicated for my conditions. Can’t squat. Can’t deadlift. Can’t machine hack squat. Can’t do some plyos. Can’t lunge. Can’t do any direct glute or hip work.

And don’t get me started on how long this has been. This has, by far, been the longest recovery period of my life. 6 months of hip healing, that has been incredibly painful both physically and mentally. I often feel lost.

In my lostness, there is a righteous anger. I’m fed up with hurting. Being in constant pain, makes me angry enough to work harder than I have in the past. I’m trying to work smarter and be in control of my plans… My plans that will be enacted the moment I have free time.

Upward and Onward

I’ve decided to no longer hide my struggles or hide my life. This blog IS about hard work isn’t it?? I'm weeding out the negatives in my life, and have decided to no longer spend my time "holding on". Because that is what it has seemed like. Holding on until the next moment where I can breathe and do what I want. But just like worry, there is no sense in being miserable if I don't have to be. And I definitely don't!

This now has to be what I want. In order for our business to become all that it can, and in order for me to achieve my own dreams, I have to want everything I have to do within each and every single day. I want to work. I want to do invoicing. And I NEED my workout time. I don't have time, I make time.

The Struggle to Be More
The interesting thing about life, is sometimes it requires you to become a better person. I never realized how incredibly selfish I was until my personal time was challenged, along with my patience, ego, commitment, and honor as a wife.

I'm struggling to be more of everything. Everything that life is requiring of me right now. Its almost like prep, you trust the plan that it will yield results. I rely solely on the hope that if I work hard and struggle long enough to be more... I will just be more.

Where do you struggle to be more than you are? How do you make yourself happy when committing your time to others??

Quick List of Reasons to be Alive: November 28th, 2012.

I am really grumpy today. I'm trying to blame it on the full moon but I know what it really is... My body hurts.

I hate to sound like a complainer - and I HATE to be the constant complainer. But sometimes, you genuinely do hurt and things go wrong. Living in my body has been extremely tiring lately. I'm in pain from the moment I get up in the morning, feel the pain radiating in my legs, hips, & back all day long, and until I lay down at night. It gets more exhausting and I feel more hopeless as the days progress.

Since I hate complainers, and am trying to push this practice away from myself, I'm resurrecting my Quick List of Reasons to be Alive. And I don't mean that the alternative is not being alive & breathing... We're talking ALIVE as in thriving, happy and alert. The purpose is to retrain your mind to focus on the positive.

Try it yourself whenever you're feeling anything but happy, it really helps!

Without further adieu ---

Quick List of Reasons to be ALIVE: November 28th, 2012.
1. Because I am NOT a quitter and I am not weak.
2. Because the moment I conquer the pain will be sweet!
3. I have dreams and can't deny them the attempt to see reality!
4. I have a husband and family that need me to continue pushing.
5. Because I hate this pain and will do anything to kill it.

Hope you all are having a wonderful Wednesday! Push hard, keep smiling, and know that you are loved!

Things I Learned This Week...

Things I Learned In the Last Week:
  1. Blogger SUCKS A FAT ONE and deletes posts without telling you. I had this big long blog post yesterday and was really proud. Aaaaaand they deleted it. Good bye useful information for others!
  2. To sum up my blog post from yesterday: The FDA has given permission to food products to lie to you about what is truly sugar-free.
  3. Ketosis rocks.
  4. Just because its free Ben & Jerry's, doesn't mean I need to eat it.
  5. Handsome is the best man for me.
  6. I'm a busy girl. I admit that. I also admit that I struggle to balance time at home, time with family (which I have a bunch), and time with friends. But I learned that I'm excited to put in more time with friends. :D
  7. Blogger really sucks. And I need my own website.
  8. We're not all meant to have EVERYTHING. Just because I want to teach yoga, doesn't mean that its feasible for me right now. <--- I'm not doing teacher training in the fall, figure won out... its what I want.
  9. I'm getting more excited to compete now that my body fat is starting to fall off. (Finally!)

I might be that competitive jerk... ;)

The Weight of Expectation

Just how I feel today.

That is all.

Oh wait!

Quick List of Reasons to Be Alive!
  1. I get to go home and snuggle my best friend, who never judges or belittles me.
  2. I get to go home and snuggle my furry babies, who also never judges or belittles me.
  3. Protein crepes with pb... and maybe a tsp of Nutella if I train hard!
  4. I get to train and take out my all frustrations and hurts.
  5. I get to stretch out my muscles in the steam room if I train hard.
  6. I only have 2 hours left at work.
The weight of expectations can be so great that even dragging yourself through a workout (which should be is my "me" time!) can be a chore. I am one of those people that happens to be very sensitive, I work on it. Handsome tells me I need to build a thicker shell, and with all the things I've experienced you'd think I would have by now. But the reality is that I have a very soft heart; I bruise as easily as I love. The reality is also that we all hurt each other, and forgiveness is a quality I continually learn.
I'm expecting to see waterworks during my training today, but as long as I get through it... I'm alright with letting the other regulars see me as a woman. lol!

Pushing

Not me...

I feel like I should feel more excited about things, but I'm just not. Having a really hard time battling through this loss of motivation... The only things I look forward to during the day are.. Wait! Time for another round of......

Quick List of Reasons to Be Alive:
1-Steam room at the end of it
2-Going home to my most favorite handsomesexywonderfulsweetstrongBUILT man
3-Casein crepe w/almond butter before bed. Who doesn't LOVE going to bed full when you've been hungry ALL day?!
4-Being able to know on the inside that I had yet another perfect (eats, water, sups, & workouts) day

Okay, I'm working on my mental status. It is hard, but I'm working on it. I'm trying to create my positive outlook that will keep me going through my days. Bringing me just another day closer to my goals.

500 am: 45 mins of stairmill with 2 mins of running
330 pm: 10 mins treadmill (okay, this *might* be just a warm up... but I gotta give myself credit where credit is due and doing just that makes me feel proud of myself)
Weights: Abs, Arms & Shoulders
Standing biceps Curl: 3@ 30x10, 7@ 20x10 (Remember: I'm working on muscle endurance)
Barbell Behind Neck Press: 3@ 30x10, 7@20x10
Bench Dip: 10 sets of 10 reps
Rear Lateral Raise: 2@ 10x10, 8@ 8x10
And my lovely pyramid @ 60 lbs assisted (wide grip)
36 pullups, 72 pushups, and 108 Bench Leg Raises

2 rowing tabatas :) And finished it off with 20 mins of steam room yoga to give my muscleys some lovin! (Ps... my biceps and traps are really sore today)

Eats... Pretty dead on:
7: 1c oatmeal, 2 egg whites + 1 egg, a clementine & coffee
10: 2 c lettuce, 1 tbsp fat free balsamic vinegarette dressing, & 3 oz chicken
1: 3 oz chicken, 1/2 c brown rice & green tea
5: 2 scps whey isolate & rice cake
730: 2 casein crepes w/2 tbsp almond butter (alright, this happened because my turkey chilli didn't turn out and I was getting to that point where I was too tired to cook and was therefore no longer hungry. And paid for it with lack of calories.)
Total: 1285 Calories, 150g Protein, 79g Carb, 41g Fat along with 104 oz water.
